WEST biologists have studied how wind energy affects greater sage-grouse for nearly 10 years. Recent research provides updated insights into the relationship between sage-grouse populations and wind energy development.
In collaboration with the University of Wyoming and the George Miksch Sutton Avian Research Center, our team completed the first sage-grouse and wind energy study built on both pre- and post-construction GPS data: three years before, five years after, plus long-term lek survey results from south-central Montana.
