2025 was an experience-filled year for WEST’s detection-dog teams. Our dog teams worked on 20 projects, mainly bird and bat fatality monitoring at wind energy facilities but also turtle detection projects. Because we believe old dogs can learn new tricks, WEST has been expanding our detection-dog service line to include small mammal, herpetofauna, scat, and vegetation surveys!
We worked on projects in six states and one province, including one new state for our detection-dog teams. We couldn’t have done it without the 27 dedicated handlers and their 4-legged co-woofers who persevered through the season!
