WEST leverages decades of experience from US and Canadian development and energy markets to deliver environmental consulting services globally. We provide tailored environmental solutions for emerging and established markets in Latin America, Africa, Europe, and beyond. WEST has worked in over 19 countries, excluding the US and Canada, since 2006, with the highest number of projects in Latin America. Studies where WEST has been involved have been focused on the conflict between wind power and birds and bats, assisting clients with construction monitoring, post-construction monitoring, technology efficacy verification, finance performance standards, and statistical support for tackling challenging ecological projects. WEST has helped numerous developers and lenders reach their biodiversity goals.

Genesis Wind Project​

Raptor Risk Assessment, Fatality Minimization Key Performance Indicators, Post-construction Fatality Monitoring study design and statistical analysis.

Outcome: WEST supported our client on identifying the main risks to specific raptor species and helped them coordinate with national agencies on the ways they were working to minimize risk. Using data collected by an in-country consultant, WEST analyzed the post-construction fatality monitoring data and provided results and recommendations based on the findings such that the local authorities were satisfied with the client’s efforts and the wind farm was able to continue with its operations.

Acoustic Bat Inventory of the Dominican Republic

Outcome: The bat study yielded valuable insights into the overall abundance, distribution, and spatial-temporal patterns of bat species in the Dominican Republic. Notably, the hoary bat was confirmed to be extant in the region, while the minor red bat and big free-tailed bat were found to be more widespread and abundant than previously recognized. WEST and its collaborators are currently preparing publications to share these findings.
