Health and Safety

Health and Safety

At WEST, the health and safety of our employees are at the core of everything we do. We believe that a safe work environment is essential not only for our team members but also for their families, our clients, and the continued success of our company. Our comprehensive health and safety program meets or exceeds federal, state, and local regulations, with a strong focus on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. As active members of the National Safety Council and the American Society of Safety Professionals, we continuously strive to uphold the highest safety standards. Additionally, we maintain partnerships with platforms like Avetta, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, and VERO to support our clients’ safety management needs.

As an employee-owned company, fostering a positive safety culture is a shared responsibility. Every team member understands the importance of safety, both in the field and in the office, and is encouraged to identify and communicate potential hazards. Our health and safety program is built on six key principles that work together to create a strong, proactive safety culture.

Key Aspects of WEST’s Health and Safety Program

Health and Safety Committee

Our Health and Safety Committee includes employees from across the US, providing diverse perspectives on workplace safety. The committee collaborates to identify safety improvements, support corrective actions, and promote a culture of continuous safety awareness.

Health and Safety Planning

Before any project begins, we conduct thorough safety planning tailored to each client’s specific requirements and site conditions. Known hazards are documented in Field Safety Plans or Job Safety Analyses, which are reviewed with field supervisors and project managers to ensure everyone is prepared.

Weekly Safety Meetings

Field teams participate in weekly safety meetings to discuss upcoming activities, review safety protocols, and address potential risks. These meetings foster open dialogue, recognize safe practices, and help mitigate environmental and workplace hazards.

Open Communication

We maintain a culture of transparency where employees feel empowered to voice safety concerns without fear of retaliation. Open communication is vital to identifying risks early and ensuring every team member feels heard and supported.

Stop Work Authority

All WEST employees have the authority—and the responsibility—to stop work if they believe an activity poses a safety risk. This policy ensures safety concerns are addressed immediately, promoting a culture where proactive risk management is the standard.

Dedicated Health and Safety Staff

WEST employs a team of full-time health and safety professionals who oversee our safety program, provide training, and respond to incidents. Their expertise ensures our safety practices are current, effective, and aligned with industry best practices.
